New Countertops!

Today one of my dreams has come true, and we are finally rid of the grody faux-butcher block laminate kitchen countertops. We did a lot of work on this house before we moved in, and they were really the last remnant of the horrorshow that was this house in October 2005. Just as a fun reminder, here is the kitchen when we bought the house:

HONESTLY. How did someone actually live here? Why are the cabinet knobs white?

So here's how we changed it up. We tore off the pineapple wallpaper, got new laminate flooring, and painted the walls and cabinets.

But the countertops. They were just gross. Instead of caulk, there was a weird metallic strip between the counter and the backsplash that was completely impossible to keep clean, as was immediately obvious when we moved in because apparently nobody had even tried in the previous 25 years.

And, here is my kitchen today.

I feel like it just looks NORMAL. Not even especially fantastic or anything, just normal, unobtrusive, and clean. FINALLY.

Papaya is a big fan.

She likes the sink especially.

The sink was the reason we went with Corian instead of granite - Ben's parents have a seamless sink like this and I wanted one just like it. It will be so much easier to keep clean!

So I'm happy. Money well spent.
